LifePower Super Bowl Weekend began on Saturday, February 6 with Word of Life’s 1st Annual Punt, Pass and Kick Tournament. It was cold; around 37 degrees. In spite of that, 56 children and adults braved the weather for the tournament which began at 10 a.m. at the Charles Page High School Football Field.

Rev. Jim Griffin and Rev. Ken Zachary started by praying over the participants and then warming everyone up with a stretching routine. There were five age categories for the tournament. First, second and third place trophies were awarded to the winners as follows:

8 & 9 yr old girls: 1st - Jaden Crawford; 2nd - Shelbi Plummer
8 & 9 yr old boys: 1st - Benjamin Hewitt
10 & 11 yr old boys: 1st - Skylar Raiburn
12 & 13 yr old girls: 1st - Kelsie Becker
12 & 13 yr old boys: 1st - Richard Wilson; 2nd - Robert Burch; 3rd - Caleb Rigsby
14 & 15 yr old boys: 1st - Blake Wheeler; 2nd - Tristen Plummer; 3rd - Jacob Palmer
16 & older boys: 1st - Jesse Lindley; 2nd - Pastor Tim Earnhardt; 3rd - Ryan Underwood

The winners will advance to the Regional Punt, Pass and Kick Tournament to be held in 2011.

After the awards were handed out and photos were taken; all participants were seated on the turf. Rev. Ken Zachary also called “Big Zach” spoke to the group giving a devotional which included his personal testimony. He was a Sapulpa High School football player who went on to play for the Green Bay Packers. As a professional football player he sustained a football injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down. The doctors told him he would never walk again. He told of how he then turned to Jesus the miraculous recovery that took place.

After the devotional four of the participants gave their lives to Christ and two rededicated their lives to Him. What an awesome start to a great weekend!

On Sunday, February 7 the LifePower Team ministered at both the 9 & 11a.m. services here at Word of Life. They performed great feats of strength mixed with humor and the word of God. They broke through stacks of bricks with their arm and broke baseball bats over their back. They tore the Tulsa Phone Book in half and crushed full cans of soda with their hands. We saw frying pans curled into the shape of a burrito and a cold pressed steel rod and curled it into the shape of a pretzel. Once again “Big Zach” gave his personal testimony and many responded. If you missed the service you can purchase a copy of the CD from the book store. All in all there were four new births and six rededications. Glory!

That afternoon at 4:30pm, Band of Brothers hosted a “Chili Cook-Off” at the Depot. There were 11 entries and over 60 people judging each entry. Awards were given to…

Daniel & Loretta Asher won for the “Best Tasting” Super Bowl Chili.
Kimber Cheney won for the “Best Naming” Cheney’s Chewbacca Chili.
And finally, Jason Schrepel won for the “Best Blazing” T&J’s Lethal Injection Chili.

All participants were awarded a two foot tall trophy and a $25 gift card, courtesy of Felts Shoes…where shoes never felt so good!

As the evening wore on over 194 people had gathered at the Depot to enjoy the Super Bowl game between the Saints and the Colts. But for those who don’t especially like football there were plenty of other activities to enjoy. Many played bingo (15 rounds…whew!), a pool tournament, a Wii bowling tournament, and a Texas Holdem tournament with awards going to:

Patrick Drake - Pool Tournament Champion - $25 Wal-Mart Gift Card
Lindsey McCollum - Wii Boling Tournament Champion - $15 Wendy’s Gift Card
John Rockwood - Texas Holdem Tournament Champion - $25 Rib Crib Gift Card

Of course there was plenty of food to eat besides chili…such as “Barrett’s Famous Dogs”. I don’t think anyone can resist Dale Barrett’s smoked and seasoned beef and turkey dogs. Bet you can’t eat just one! Jack Barnes brought plenty of hot and sweet chicken wings, finger lickin’ good! Others brought chips, dips and desserts. No one left that night wanting for anything that is certain.

All evening people fellowshipped and hung out and really seemed to enjoy the being at the Depot. It may have been cold outside but it was plenty warm inside surrounded by our family and friends.
